Mission

The Next Generation Initiative (NGI) seeks to promote awareness of The DuPage Community Foundation and to cultivate our community’s next generation of philanthropic leaders.

Overview:

Formally established in February 2007, the NGI is an opportunity for like-minded community leaders to join together to learn about philanthropy, participate in the giving process and work to help raise the quality of life for the residents of the DuPage community.

Activities:

To facilitate the above goals, the NGI hosts a mix of activities for members each year including educational programs focusing on philanthropy, introductions to DuPage area not-for-profits, group service projects and social events.

As part of this process, the NGI also allows members to participate in pooled giving through a permanent endowment fund.  The earnings from the fund are then used by the NGI to make annual grants in support of one or more local not-for-profit organizations selected by its members.

Roles and Responsibilities of NGI Members:

  • Attend occasional social events with fellow NGI members to build camaraderie, learn more about the Foundation, promote philanthropy and receive introductions to DuPage area not-for-profits.

  • Make a minimum, annual contribution to the Next Generation Fund, a sub-fund of the Foundation’s General Endowment, which will provide lasting support for a range of DuPage area not-for-profits.  (Note: All contributions are fully tax-deductable.)

  • Must care about your community and wish to help make it a better place.

  • Must be generous.

  • Must be friendly.

  • Must want to have fun!

Results:

  • Since its inception, more than 50 individuals and families have become members of the NGI and contributed nearly $60,000 to the Next Generation Endowment Fund.

  • To date, the NGI has made nearly $5,000 in grants to organizations such as the Assistance League of Chicagoland West, for its "Operation New Start" program, and Northern Illinois Food Bank, in support of two mobile food pantries serving needy DuPage families and children.

Membership Levels/Registration:

The NGI offers annual memberships at a variety of levels to meet each participant's particular needs and interests.  Each level includes full access to all NGI activities as well as recognition in select issues of Foundation publications.

In addition, 100% of each membership contribution goes toward building the Next Generation Endowment Fund in order to generate annual income for grants to local charitable causes working to benefit DuPage area residents.

Membership levels are as follows:

Beginning:            $50  (for singles under 30)     $100 (per couple under 30)
