Workforce Development

The DuPage Community Foundation views both affordable housing and early childhood care and education as workforce issues.  Families that have good quality and accessible child care are better able to be creative and productive at work secure in the knowledge that their children are being well cared for and receiving age-appropriate learning opportunities on a daily basis.  Additionally, families need housing and transportation choices that are relatively close to their place of employment.

The Foundation will continue to seek opportunities to address workforce issues as they relate to affordable housing and early childhood care and education.  Going forward, we have established the following measurable goals for this business effort:

Year 1:

  • Study will begin with a grant from DCF.

Year 2:

  • Study will be shared with the DuPage Workforce Board (DWB) and Choose DuPage (a regional economic development corporation dedicated to advancing DuPage County as a premiere global business location by attracting new businesses and retaining those already here) to prioritize workforce housing as one of their strategic business issues.

  • Outreach will extend to three local chambers of commerce to encourage making workforce housing a legislative issue to produce smart growth development.

Year 3:

  • DWB adopts the issue and brings it to its industry sector groups which will develop solutions.

  • Legislative results might include tax credits to fund workforce housing and/or school funding for density bonuses.
