The goal of Creative Curriculum is to help caregivers and teachers structure their classrooms in a manner that positively fosters the intellectual, physical and social emotional development of each child.
The program is divided into two parts:
- Part 1 – How Children Develop and Learn, The Learning Environment, What Children Learn, The Teacher’s Role, and The Family’s Role
- Part 2 – Interest Areas (blocks, dramatic play, toys and games, library, discover, sand and water, music and movement, cooking, computers and outdoors)
The expected outcomes for child care programs participating in the Creative Curriculum training and mentorship programs are:
- To create and establish a classroom environment that is sensitive to the individual needs and learning styles of each child. Manipulatives and materials in the classroom and interest areas will spark the imagination, creativity and curiosity of all children.
- To establish a child care philosophy that is built on a partnership between the early care and education teaching staff, parent and the child.
- Mentors, administrative staff and teachers will develop a collaborative program plan that will work towards meeting the goals of the Creative Curriculum.
- The child care program and teaching staff will demonstrate a clear understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and its application through the implementation of the program.
