WHEATON, IL--The DuPage Community Foundation is pleased to announce the election of Richard W. Kuhn and Daniel Maguire to its Board of Trustees as well as the installation of its 2007-2008 officers at its September 10 meeting.
Richard W. Kuhn is a founding partner of the Naperville-based law firm Kuhn, Heap & Monson. In his practice he concentrates in the areas of real estate, estate planning and corporate law.
"I am humbled by my election to the Foundation’s board,” said Kuhn. “My time spent on other charitable boards, most notably the Naperville United Way, and my representations of charitably-minded estate planning clients has provided me with hands on insight as to what impact philanthropy makes upon our world. After making site visits to several area agencies I became ‘hooked’ on serving the charitable arena. I can only hope that I am able to bring additional value to the Foundation’s already talent-laden board.”
Kuhn earned his Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Bradley University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and his law degree, with honors, from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is a former chairman of the DuPage County Bar Association Real Estate Committee and served as co-editor of the Real Estate Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. Kuhn is also a frequent speaker on behalf of various Bar Associations and other civic organizations throughout the area and has published a variety of articles in various legal journals.
A life-long Naperville resident and active community leader, Kuhn has served and continues to serve on many charitable and community related boards throughout DuPage County. He is a past president of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce and a former adjunct professor of business law at North Central College in Naperville. Kuhn also served as the co-chair of the Naperville United Way Annual Campaign from 2000-2001. He currently serves as chairman of the Naperville Development Partnership.
Kuhn and his wife Mary have four children.
Daniel Maguire has served as president and chief executive officer of the Hillside-based Executive Construction Inc. since 1994. The company is one of Chicago’s leading mid-size construction firms specializing in serving prestigious clients in the corporate and institutional market sectors. Prior to this, Maguire enjoyed a highly successful 26-year career with Turner Construction Company where he served in numerous capacities including vice president and general manager of its Chicago territory.
“I am pleased to join the Foundation’s board and look forward to learning more about the numerous agencies which benefit from its grant programs.” said Maguire. “Not-for-profits play a critical role in helping meet the various needs of our community’s residents. I am hopeful that through my participation I can help the Foundation enhance its effectiveness in achieving its mission.”
Maguire earned his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the Worchester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Massachusetts, and his MBA from the University of Chicago. Some of his community activities include serving as board president of both the Chicago Architecture Foundation and East West Corporate Corridor Association, an advisor to the Chicago Housing Authority, a director of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine board, and a board member for CoACH Care Center in Naperville. He has also established himself as an advocate for promoting minority participation in construction, having served as a member of the City of Chicago’s Affirmative Action Commission appointed by Mayor Richard Daley.
In addition, Maguire currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Engineering at Northwestern University and as an advisor to the civil engineering departments of both Northwestern and WPI.
He lives in Naperville with his wife Beth.
Kuhn and Maguire were identified and recruited by the Foundation’s Board Development Committee to replace former trustees David P. Aldridge (Wheaton) and George N. Gilkerson Jr. (Glen Ellyn) who completed their terms of service on the board this past September. Both Aldridge and Gilkerson were appointed trustees emeriti in recognition of their exemplary service on behalf of the Foundation during a special reception held in late September. They had served on the Foundation’s board since 1998.
Foundation officer appointments for 2007-2008 included Carson R. Yeager (Western Springs), senior vice president and managing director of the Northern Trust Company’s Hinsdale Financial Center, to Foundation chair; Frank C. Hudetz (Lisle), chairman of the Naperville-based Solar Communications, to vice chair; Laurie K. McMahon (Hinsdale) to secretary; and Norman J. Beles (Hinsdale), president of the Hinsdale-based Belcorp Financial Services Inc., to treasurer.
