Wheaton, IL—The DuPage Community Foundation is pleased to announce it recently surpassed $5 million in cumulative grant distributions. This momentous milestone was achieved as a result of a $75,000 grant issued on December 29 from the Owen Schiff Foundation, a donor-advised fund of The DuPage Community Foundation, to Ronald McDonald House Charities in Oak Brook.
Since its first grant to the DuPage County Historical Society in 1987, The DuPage Community Foundation has awarded more than 1,300 grants to more than 400 not-for-profit organizations serving the residents of DuPage County and beyond. Total grants for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006, amounted to approximately $820,000 with nearly $463,000 of that amount being distributed from the Foundation’s Discretionary Grant Program and the remainder from its donor-advised and other restricted funds.
Examples of some of the Foundation’s largest grant recipients include The Conservation Foundation (Naperville), DuPage Children’s Museum (Naperville), Elmhurst Art Museum, Family Shelter Service (Wheaton), The Morton Arboretum (Lisle) and the People’s Resource Center (Wheaton), among others.
“We’re extremely pleased to be celebrating such a significant accomplishment, especially at the close of our 20th anniversary which just concluded December 31,” said Foundation President David M. McGowan, CFRE. “During fiscal year 2006, the Foundation experienced a 44% increase in its grant distributions from the previous year. Such tremendous growth wouldn’t have been possible without the generous advocacy and support of our many friends and partners. Their confidence and trust have truly been the driving force that’s allowed us to increase our impact throughout the community these past few years, and we’re deeply grateful.”
Established in 1986, The DuPage Community Foundation is a publicly-supported 501 (c) (3) organization to which contributions are tax deductible. The Foundation was created to benefit the people of DuPage County and receives contributions and bequests into a permanent endowment from individuals, corporations, organizations, and foundations wishing to make lasting contributions to the people of DuPage. The earnings on these funds are then used, in accordance with donor wishes, for the Foundation’s grantmaking and community leadership activities.
The DuPage Community Foundation seeks to raise the quality of life throughout DuPage County by developing and channeling philanthropy to meet the needs of its residents. Based on the American virtues of volunteerism and philanthropy, the Foundation fosters a legacy of support for the people of DuPage County by making grants to not-for-profit organizations working in the arts and culture, education, environmental affairs, health, and human services.
