"NGI offers a tremendous opportunity for young professionals to become involved with The DuPage Community Foundation. By pooling our resources, we emulate a donor-advised fund, including hands-on experience in the grantmaking process. In addition, the NGI affords us the chance to meet, socialize, and volunteer with other philanthropic-oriented people throughout the entire county."

Foundation Trustee and NGI Chair

Mission:
The Next Generation Initiative seeks to promote awareness of The DuPage Community Foundation and to cultivate our community's next generation of philanthropic leaders.
Overview:
Formally established in February 2007, the NGI is an opportunity for like-minded community leaders to join together to learn about philanthropy, participate in the giving process and work to help raise the quality of life for the residents of the DuPage community.
Activities:
To facilitate the above goals, the NGI hosts a mix of activities for members each year including educational programs focusing on philanthropy, introductions to DuPage area not-for-profits, group service projects and social events.
As part of the process, the NGI also allows members to participate in pooled giving through a permanent endowment fund. The earnings from the fund are then used by the NGI to make annual grants in support of one or more local not-for-profit organizations selected by its members.
How It Works:
Through fully tax-deductible annual dues, NGI members contribute to a permanent endowment fund. The earnings from this fund are then used by teh NGI to recommend annual grants in support of one or more local not-for-profit organizations identified by its members.
Benefits of Joining:
- Leverage charitable contributions through pooled giving
- Participate in the NGI's annual grantmaking process
- Discounts to NGI events including the Annual Derby Celebration & Auction
- Learn more about philanthropy
- Network with local community leaders through educational forums and service projects
- Explore your charitable interests
- Develop your leadership skills by joining one of NGI's committees
Results:
Since its inception, more than 50 individuals and families have become members of the NGI and contributed nearly $120,000 to the Next Generation Endowment Fund.
To date, the NGI has made nearly $15,000 in grants to organizations such as the
Assistance League of Chicagoland West, Northern Illinois Food Bank, Hamdard Center for Health and Human Services, Literacy DuPage, and Outreach Community Ministries.
Membership Levels/Registration:
The NGI offers annual membership at a variety of levels to meet each participant's particular needs and interests. Each level includes full access to all NGI activities as well as recognition in select issues of Foundation publications.
In addition, 100% of each membership contribution goes toward building the Next Generation Endowment Fund in order to generate annual income for grants to local charitable causes working to benefit DuPage area residents.
